Halving Waste to Landfill
Dew Construction is among a handful of civil engineering contractors nationally and about the only SME who have made a commitment to WRAP's (Waste & Resources Action Programme) Construction Commitments: Halving Waste to Landfill by 2012 initiative.
Dew's involvement in this initiative shows a real commitment to becoming a more efficient and sustainable construction company. For further information please visit www.wrap.org.uk

Community Recycling Project
Our plastic recycling efforts help preserve precious natural resources and save us money whilst also helping others in our local community. The plastic cups and bottles that we recycle at our head office are collected, sorted and passed to recycling companies by The Oldham Community Occupation Recycling Project. We chose the Community Occupation Recycling Project over commercial competitors because it employs local adults with learning difficulties within a safe and supervised environment in order to equip them with the life skills and social experiences that many of us take for granted. There is also a Community Occupation Woodworking Project, Garden Centre and Allotment. Dew and DCT are currently investigating other ways in which we can support these worthwhile enterprises and ensure the long-term sustainability of the services they provide.
Ethical Water Coolers
Setting ourselves new standards sometimes involves small but significant action. The subject of bottled water has been hotly debated in the media and as a medium sized business we realised that we used bottled water supplies for our water coolers both in our head office and out on our sites. We took the conscious decision to switch to a new ethical water supplier, Aquaid, who installed a mains water cooler in our Head Office. Aquaid donate a substantial portion of their profits to Christian Aid and Pump Aid who use it for water and social infrastructure development projects in the 3rd World. In 2007 they donated over £700,000 to the two charities. We are also switching to Aquaid to supply our sites to maximise our commitment to sustainable development worldwide.
